‘Information Gladly Given’ T-Shirts

Awesome find of the weekend over at Market Street Railway blog. You’ve heard it or read it a thousand times on Muni buses: “Information gladly given, but safety requires avoiding unnecessary conversation.”

Sometimes, I want that to be my motto, on Muni, and off.

Anyway, MSR is selling these nifty shirts. Buy one online, yeah? Or, even better, get one at the Market Street Railway Museum.

This Friday is your last chance to see Outbound, a collection of transit-related art curated by Eden Stein at Secession Art and Design in Bernal Heights. We had a blast with you at the gallery opening last month and look forward to wrapping up the show with Eden and the amazing artists in the collection this Friday!

Printable SFMTA Memo Re: Broken Clipper Card Readers

In the comments on this morning’s post by Rachel, a reader suggested that we all print out the memo from SFMTA directing Muni operators to let us ride when the Clipper card-readers are broken (to treat the situation exactly as they do broken fare boxes). I thought it was an excellent suggestion, and in the interests of better serving you, dear reader, I’ve posted the memo again.

Click the image to get the jpg by itself. From there, either right-click (Windows) or control-click (Mac) and download the jpg. Print it out, stash it somewhere safe, and produce it in the event you encounter an operator who hasn’t got the memo. (I’ll never get sick of whipping out that phrase. Heh.)

And of course, if you ever do need to show a driver the memo you printed out from Muni Diaries, be sure to let us all know!

No plans for Saturday night? Try the Guardsmen Roundup

Friends of Muni Diaries, The Guardsmen, are throwing one helluva party tonight out at Herbst Pavilion. The Roundup promises “country-western music, SF-style,” according to one of the event’s organizers. Also, booze! More reason to take Muni there and back. Bust out yer snazziest cowboy/cowgirl gear, dust off yer boots, and git!

Here’s what they’ve got lined up for you:
Live music: Elliott Randall & The Deadmen; Bad Influence featuring Monique LeCompte
Open bar! El Tonayense taco truck! Big-ass dance floor!
Doors at 8:30 p.m., event lasts until 1:00 a.m.
Herbst Pavilion at Fort Mason
Admission: $50 at the door
Muni: 22, 28, 30, 49,

The Guardsmen is a non-profit organization that raises to send inner-city kids to summer camp. Pretty cool.

Solo-driving the good ship Muni Diaries

108 to school

Hi, everyone. Just a quick note here to let you know that momma Eugenia has left me (papa Jeff) in charge of you kids for the next two weeks. Yes, you can eat all the candy and dessert and sodas you want, watch whatever on TV, and go to sleep when you feel like it. But let’s make a deal, too: let’s create the best Muni Diaries we can for Eugenia to come home to.

That means you guys gotta keep sending me your Muni stories, photos, videos, songs, and whatever else you think warrants a post on Muni Diaries. And keep the comments coming. I can steer the ship, but you guys gotta paddle. Or is it the other way around?

  • Send Muni stories here.
  • Submit photos to our Muni Photo Flickr group here.
  • Send stories, photos, missed connections, love letters, requests, and everything else to our email account here.

Let’s do this!

* Technically, I will have some editorial/curatorial help these next two weeks. Tara has volunteered to navigate these dangerous waters. Thanks, Tara!

Stand Up For Your Muni Line

Don’t let the picture fool you — we love the N-Judah plenty. In fact, we’ve got a whopping 51 stories about the N-Judah here on Muni Diaries. How do I know? We just added a drop-down box on the sidebar to the right over there so you can select stories by bus route. This was one of the most often-heard requests during our redesign, so here it is.

But don’t let the N, the 22, or the 49 steal the thunder from other lines. Can it really be that there are only 8 stories for the 19-Polk? What about poor 3-Jackson?

We know stories happens on Muni all the time, so if you’ve got a story, photo, or art for your line, send it over so you can show some love for your route!
