Namaste on the 24-Divisadero

Sarah of I’m writing, you’re reading sent us the following remarkable little slice of life on the 24-Divisadero.

I sat down on the bus (ran to catch it again thankyouverymuch) after my second 3-hour yoga session of the weekend. Yoga mat and eco-friendly water bottle in hands. Glance across the isle and spot the exact same eco-friendly water bottle in the hands of another girl.

Oh and what do you know, she’s holding a yoga mat too.

Well aren’t we just two identical San Francisco stereotypes. In the flesh. On the bus.

So we make eye contact and I first point at my water bottle, then to hers. Then to my mat, and to hers. Laughter.

Janet’s class?, she asks.

No, Dina’s workshop, I answer.

YogaTree junkies. Shoulda known.

We bond over our mutual love of Janet Stone’s flow classes at the Castro studio, and she knew exactly which workshop I was taking because she thought of taking it too. And is going to take it later.

What’s your name?, she asks.
I’m Sarah, I answer.

She just shakes her head and laughs.
I’m Sarah too, she says.

When Sarah got off the bus, the girl next to me confirmed what I was just thinking, “I’m sorry, but that was really cute.”

Now it’s your turn — tell us what happened to you on Muni today.

What’s the weirdest Muni cargo you’ve seen?

apparently, you can

I found this photo while trolling Flickr for more Muni-related pictures. Is that a surf board and a …black board?

A while back we received a submission from a rider who found a clever way to transport a ladder on Muni. On the 47 the other day I saw a man with a bearded dragon who tried to charge me a dollar to take a photo of it. We’ve see rats, parrots, and a giant spider passing as passengers on our commutes.

Spot any odd cargo on Muni lately? Let us know.

This week in Muni news:

– Muni collision in West Portal last summer produces 57 claims (SF Examiner)

– Supervisor seeks Muni performance review (KCBS and StreetsBlog)

– MTA Budget meeting – commenters give an earful, and MTA prepares to chop more jobs

– Police find Muni crime difficult, one calls Muni a getaway car (Mission Loc@l)

– Van Ness transit boost moving forward (Examiner)

Bad weather brought in some great pictures by photogs in the Muni Flickr pool, so don’t forget to add yours to the mix. Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

WTF on this photo? Part of me wants to say, “Only in the Bay Area.” Who knows?

Not a lot going on this week in terms of BART news. More people taking public transit, what with El Niño 2010 hitting town. Did you ride BART more often than normal? Find it cleaner and more reliable than your normal method of commuting?

The best bit of BART-related internetting this week went on over at Burrito Justice. Johnny linked to the ever-awesome Eric Fischer’s discovery of some uber-futuristic BART maps from the past. They concern that mythical beast known in many parts as BART in Marin. Check out the images now for some visual pleasantries.

Don’t forget to send your best BART stories this way. And send your BART photos to our nifty Flickr group.

Looks like we’re set to get at least a two-day respite from the wetness. Go forth and enjoy yourself!

metroNOW: New Muni iPhone App

These kinds of things have escaped us here at Muni Diaries lately. Namely because we’ve become an iPhone-free (read: connected and fucking loving Verizon) website.

But god bless app developers out there. We just received the following from Donal Carroll, who’s pimping his new-to-the-App-Store App, metroNOW!:

All, I have written an iPhone app to (hopefully) make commuting on the Muni a bit easier. Tell me what you think

I love the name of the app, given that it’s for Muni. It’s like the app itself is saying, “Fuck, Muni, NOW!” Or even, “Muni, NOW?”

Here is a link to the app on Apple’s App Store (fun to say). Enjoy, and drop Donal a line somewhere to let him know how you’re liking metroNOW!
