These gloves are missing their Muni driver
What are they supposed to do, walk around in the driver’s coat pocket or something?
Spotted this the other night near the Embarcadero.

Pretty busy weekend, and then things will really pick up on Monday, which is both MLK and Inauguration Day. Forewarned is fore-armed!
Athletic Association Event
From Friday through Saturday the San Francisco Gaelic Athletic Association event will take place at the San Francisco Gaelic Fields on Treasure Island and require the closure of Avenue “H” between California Avenue and 3rd Street from 3 p.m., Friday to 7 p.m., Saturday.
The 108 Treasure Island Muni route will be affected.

So you’ve seen that story going around about the “25 Things I Wish I Knew Before Moving to San Francisco,” right? The story names three things to know about Muni:
1) Google Maps is never right about what time the bus will come.
2) Half of the buses require you to step down into the steps to get the back door to open.
3) Chinatown is a bottleneck on any route going through it
I’m sure you have a lot more Muni truths to share. Also true: our city makes for some gorgeous pictures, especially in black and white.
Enjoy these photos and your weekend!

The machines that will build the Central Subway tunnels need a name, and the SFMTA is asking you to vote on names of prominent San Francisco women to bestow on the machines for good luck.
Your choices:
These machines will excavate and construct the Central Subway’s northbound and southbound tunnels, traveling from SOMA through Union Square, Chinatown and North Beach.
I must admit that I didn’t know much about these prominent women of San Francisco, and at first I misread “boring” for “uninteresting” (also known as Movies Starring Jennifer Aniston). To clarify, the voting website has more information about these women. This morning, @bartdiaries told me that “Anyone who doesn’t vote for Big Alma is a damned fool and should have their voting rights taken away.” You can decide for yourself and vote for your favorite two names at the Central Subway website.

Not to get your hopes too high, but check this out: Boston’s MBTA is the first municipal transit agency to introduce ticketing via smartphone. From the Atlantic’s Cities blog:
Earlier this week, the agency passed the million-dollar milestone selling single, 10-trip and one-month passes for its commuter rail system through the new app, offering a proof of concept for an idea that could expand soon to buses and metro service and other cities. …
You know how you hate cell phone talkers on Muni, right? I think this lady’s definitely excused in my book because…hello, pupperdoo napping in her shirt!
