Muni riders Markus and Steve noticed an interesting advertisement tactic on Muni the other day. From Markus:
Saw this what looks to be ambient advertising piece on the L train today. Pretty good stuff. A cat hair vacuum I think?
A real ad from Miele, or does this mark the return of juvenile guerilla ads on Muni?
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na…
@grandview89 tweeted us this pic of people who will obviously love Batman and each other fo lyfe:
Matching Batman tatts on the N. How romantic.
It’s a good time to celebrate heroes, even (ALLEGEDLY) fictional ones.
Show us what you’re looking at on Muni via @munidiaries on Twitter or the Muni Diaries Facebook page. Follow us on both while you’re at it!
Here is a neat new app that displays live locations of Muni buses. Click SF Live Bus to see the little boxes moving around. Kind of mesmerizing. And useful.

Muni rider Erin overheard a charming exchange of cultures and languages on the 22-Fillmore the other night.
On the 22 to the Richmond late Saturday night, sitting next to thirty-something Hispanic woman. Twenty-something Chinese couple and white male friend get on the bus.
Chinese couple sits in front of us: “How’s your night going?”
Woman next to me: “Perdona, no entiendo.”
Chinese guy: “Hablas español? De donde es usted?”Cue conversation in Spanish in which I learn (eavesdropping) that the Chinese couple is out with their Spanish tutor, the white gentleman, and love the Spanish language.
Don’t know if they realized I understood anything, but I nearly laughed when Chinese guy told the Hispanic woman that Chinese people and people from Central America have a lot in common because they love spicy food, but white people don’t.
Such a random late night convo.
And such a reason to love San Francisco.

Update:
Looks like things have cleared up at Embarcadero Station, according to @jqmcd:
all’s good on the platform at 5:55
Carry on, commuters, and tweet us any new happenings on Muni or BART.
Original post:
Our Twitter followers on the ground are reporting that there is smoke filling up the Embarcadero Station as of 5:13 p.m. today and that the station is closed.
From @supereric:
In Embarcadero station, it’s filling with smoke. Two firetrucks on street upstairs. Can’t be good. #muni
From @jeremysprague:
Firemen are going into the Embarcadero BART station. A small puff of smoke was seen, but other entrances don’t look blocked.
From @paulsfo, who took the photo above:
Embarcadero station closed! A lot of police and firefighters here
Are you on the scene? Tweet us @munidiaries and let us know what’s happening!
