You have a phone. You ride Muni. You are thus eligible to beta test Muni’s new mobile ticketing app, MuniMobile. From SFMTA:

MuniMobile enables customers to purchase and use transit fares across the Muni system.

Buy Muni tickets and passes in advance or on-the-go! With MuniMobile, your phone is your fare. There’s no longer need to carry exact change or rely on fare vending machines to ride.

If you complete this survey by next Tuesday, Oct. 6, you could be chosen to test the app. Nothing could go wrong!

Thursday: Pub Crawl on the 38-Geary

Save your cab fare and hit a couple of bars tonight on the 38-Geary with your fellow riders and the San Francisco Transit Riders Union. We’ll be there to give away a raffle prize of a pair of tickets to Muni Diaries Live, with seats saved just for the winners. That’s right: no standing in line; just waltz in and say your name at the door!

The 38-Geary Pub Crawl will visit three bars in four hours, with each stop close enough so hopefully you don’t sober up too much under the florescent lighting in the bus.

By the way, did you know the 38-Geary is oldest original Muni line, and the most storied line on Muni Diaries? Seven years of documenting your bus rides don’t lie! Could tonight be the night for the second episode of this Missed Connection Love Story? Or an opportunity for a night time goat sighting? Whatever happens, just don’t be this guy.

Kickass Tattoo Honors Folsom, Muni

This tattoo incorporates so many great San Francisco elements. Can you spot them all? We tracked down Leslie Lopez, the owner of the tattoo and asked her to count the ways. She says:

“I was born and raised in San Francisco and I lived on the Muni. I took them everywhere. I was raised on Folsom Street, hence the street sign. I love the 49ers and the Muni’s the represent our home team.”

Ride the time travel machine at Muni Heritage Weekend

Muni is celebrating its rich history with the 4th annual Muni Heritage Weekend, kicking off at Market Street Railway Museum at 870 Market St. at 10 a.m. this Saturday. You’ll get to ride some very historic vintage cars, like street car No. 1, as seen above in the 1980s.

Muni will run three historic buses during the heritage weekend, including a 1950 trolley coach and buses from 1969 and 1975. The SFMTA says that this year the vintage buses will perform double duty as “galleries on wheels.” When you board one of these vintage buses, you’ll see historic photos from the SFMTA archives, some of which have never been seen publicly before. The SFMTA photo archive is really a rare gem and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves history, San Francisco, and great photography. They’re on Instagram too (@sfmtaphoto).

Five historic streetcars rarely in operation will run between the Ferry Building and Pier 39. Ride Streetcars No. 1, 130, 228, 496 and 578 for free along the short Embarcadero route. For some trips, Streetcars No. 1 and 130 may run the full F Market & Wharves route.

The heritage weekend is a part of Muni Forward, which will bring new vehicles and increased frequency to Muni services.

At this rate, iguanas will outnumber humans on Muni

Earlier this year, we were averaging about an iguana sighting a month. Then the brutally hot summer set in, and the lizards must’ve been basking.

Good to see this fella riding like a boss again.
