This week in BART news:
– Federal funding for BART extension to San Jose is looking more likely (SJ Mercury)

– BART derailed in Oakland (KCBS and us)

– BART wouldn’t necessarily bring crime to Livermore, police chief says (Contra Costa Times)

Stay dry out there and enjoy the photos. And, of course, send us BART stories our way. We know more happens on BART than napping, so share it here on BART Diaries!

Weekend Photos: Rain Slicked

Mid-Market At Dusk

There’s a 80 percent chance that I will forget my umbrella on the bus this weekend, so I hope you fare a little better than that. This week we saw the new schedule changes take into effect, a Muni fracas in Pac Heights, and passengers keeping each other toasty in this winter chill. Other Muni news this week:

  • Alleged Muni stabber’s mental competency questioned (SFAppeal)
  • Muni service back on track after malfunction at Van Ness station on Wednesday evening (NBC Bay Area and see our updates here)
  • Thieves target laptops, iphones on Muni (CBS5, but you knew that, didn’t you?)
  • Muni board member questions speed practices in Twin Peaks Tunnel (SF Examiner)

Have a great weekend, everyone. And be sure to let us know how your week was on Muni with the service changes!

Hilarious, ain’t it?

Original post: Muni rider Paul sends this message of holiday cheer:

Putting a box wrapped as an Xmas gift in front of the Muni Kiosk window is one ‘festive’ way to to avoid contact with Muni customers! …..Leaves more time for this attendent to talk on the phone and file her nails! Muni’s finest….hard at work finding new innovating ways to avoid customer service ….now with a festive touch!!

Send us your Muni stories. Tell all your friends.

Decorate a Muni Streetcar for the Holidays

How to Decorate Streetcars

Rider Todd sent us these fantastic photos of Market Street Railway volunteers decorating Muni street cars for the holidays.  The volunteers decorated the Milan 1818 and New Orleans 952 streetcars last weekend at the Geneva yard with loads of ornaments, wreaths, and garlands.

The other day when I saw an F train with a little green wreath on its nose, I kind of squealed like a little girl. So thanks, Todd, for the photos!
