A Muni audit uncovered some serious training shortage, not the least of which is the napping incident that San Francisco Chronicle’s Matier and Ross highlighted yesterday. Apparently the trainer was napping, chatting, and eating while the rookie driver navigated the roads. Scary.

Oh, men taking up too much space on the train (dot tumblr dot com). Patty sent this to us wondering who’ll create the SF version. It’s been a while, but we have addressed this infuriating, still-relevant phenomenon:
Yes, we should (and we do) say something [after we possibly document it for the Internet]. But, until we do and even if we don’t, please mind your balls and your manners, gentlemen, as this seems largely the domain of male ridership. Seat-taking ladies, though, that goes for you, too.
Oh, a gay friend says he, ever so slightly, will rub up on your macho legs until you clam up (and do you ever), but I think our gay brothers really have more important things to do.

This little story, like many these days, starts on Facebook. Maria posted this on the Muni Diaries Facebook page:
Hey, just got off of 3 Jackson and I saw a notice that said that 3 Jackson was being eliminated from the entire muni system and that there is a petition to save 3 Jackson. Does anyone know what muni document says that 3 Jackson’s being eliminated?
And we were all HWWWWA? Our social channels had nil on it until this point, and I thought, surely, some ire-laced vitriol wrapped in all-caps would’ve wandered our way if this was truth.

Treasure Island Street Closure
In preparation for the Oracle Openworld annual event, the following streets are closed or inaccessible and will continue until 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7:
· California Avenue between Avenue “D” and the eastern edge of the Island
· Portions of Avenues “H”, “M” and “N”
The 108 Treasure Island Muni route will be affected during the street closure.

Bus rapid transit has the potential to positively affect some of Muni’s most seriously clogged streets. What do you think of BRT on Geary and Van Ness?
While looking for the latest rerun of Law and Order, I happened upon a TV spot for SFMTA’s Muni app, Muni +. Minutes later I was downloading it, hoping that it would be at least decent compared to what I currently use (Routesy and Maps on iPhone). SFMTA contracted app developers Sky Highways to create the app, which is available for both iPhone and Android. Read more
