BART strike averted (updates)

Update (6:43 p.m.): Now SFGate concurs — the strike has been called off.

Original post: It was the Muni Diaries Twitter feed that first predicted it: It appears, though no formal announcement has been made yet, that the two sides have avoided a strike that was set to begin tonight at midnight. The Examiner has more. We’re waiting for further details, sources before we remove that question from the post title.

Update (4:36 p.m.): Transbay Blog again, this time with TransLink tips during the strike.

Update (4:15 p.m.): Transbay Blog lists some ways to get across the Bay.

Update (4:12 p.m.): From StreetsblogSF: [ATU leader Jesse] Hunt announces strike effective Sunday evening at close of business. Also: Reporter asks: Will there be talks this weekend? Hunt: Clearly, they’ve decided they’re cutting off negotiations.

Original post: Too bad, so sad for riders and the two unions who voted in favor of the new contract. That’s not to say shame on ATU for what will most likely be a strike. Just too bad it didn’t all get worked out. We’ll do our best to keep you updated. Meantime, follow @streetsblogsf on Twitter for a probably kick-ass live tweeting of the press conference at 4 p.m. You can also try CBS 5’s live stream here.

Eve and Matt over at SF Appeal reminded us of this Saturday’s somber-yet-timely death of the 74X-Culture Bus. So SF Appeal is proposing a ride on the Culture Bus on its last day of service to our fair tourists. Go show this waste of a Muni route your love, and show the world that San Francisco still has a lot of culture, just no need for an overpriced, redundant bus route with no riders.

Update (4:12 p.m. Wednesday): SF Appeal reports that the pedestrian in this incident is expected to recover.

Update (5:55 p.m.): SF Gate quotes Judson True as saying that early indications have the incident being caused by the pedestrian.

Original post: In what is becoming too routine, SF Appeal reports that the F-Market/Wharves line has been disrupted due to an accident involving a pedestrian. Early reports indicate that the pedestrian’s injuries are not life-threatening. Shuttle buses are running between the Embarcadero and Van Ness. Stay tuned for updates …

Where the #$%! is Muni’s photography policy?

Muni Diaries would have withered and perhaps disappeared if it weren’t for some of the amazing photographs we’ve published of life on Muni. We have a category here on the site for what we call “Photo Diaries,” little slices-of-life that take place on Muni. We like running our Weekend Photo Diaries over the weekend, when traffic on the site slows down and we give readers a chance to get away from their computers. Muni photos, in a word, are vital to the continued existence of this site.

That said, we’ve witnessed some particularly troubling events in the past concerning our (and by “our,” we mean you, us, the riding, internet-ing public) capturing and posting of photographs on-board Muni vehicles.

Well, veteran San Francisco photoblogger Plug1 has taken it upon himself to get to the bottom of Muni’s vague policy regarding this subject. Below is a chat he had on Twitter with 311, and after the jump is his take on what’s going on. It also appears on his blog, WHAT IM SEEING.com. Perhaps the vagueness won’t surprise you. But there is some hope yet …
