Weekend Photos: Happy USA Day!

Photo by Flickr user Joe Lindsay

It couldn’t’ve come at a better time. We’re simply exhausted, after our last-minute push to get the new-look Muni Diaries up last weekend. We hope you’re liking it. Aside from making the comments easier to read, we think all the kinks are out. Also, we added a new feature midweek: The ability to view posts by bus route. See the sidebar on the right over there. Nifty!

Now wethinks weneeds a long weekend, one filled with nice weather, good friends, good food, fun times … oh, and fireworks. Anyone know where we can find all of the above?

SFMTA says Muni will operate on a normal schedule both Sunday and Monday. And now, the week’s Muni news:

  • West Portal Muni crash proving costly for SF (SF Examiner)
  • Muni Bus Crash Injures Two (SF Appeal)
  • Muni plans to roll back half of new service cuts in September (City Insider); Details on which routes will be affected (SF Appeal)
  • New penalties proposal targets violence on Muni (SF Examiner)
  • Transit Rally’s Speakers Say Solution To Muni’s Woes Lies In Federal Funding (SF Appeal)
  • Union Prez Picks Sides in Muni Reform (The Bay Citizen)
  • July 6, 2010, hearing on Muni September 4 Restoration Details (SFMTA)
  • Muni reform petition goes to City Hall (SF Gate)
  • SFMTA issues instructions to operators in case of broken Clipper readers: Riders ride for free! (Muni Diaries)

Enjoy these photos, and we’ll see you back here Tuesday …

Stand Up For Your Muni Line

Muni lover

Don’t let the picture fool you — we love the N-Judah plenty. In fact, we’ve got a whopping 51 stories about the N-Judah here on Muni Diaries. How do I know? We just added a drop-down box on the sidebar to the right over there so you can select stories by bus route. This was one of the most often-heard requests during our redesign, so here it is.

But don’t let the N, the 22, or the 49 steal the thunder from other lines. Can it really be that there are only 8 stories for the 19-Polk? What about poor 3-Jackson?

We know stories happens on Muni all the time, so if you’ve got a story, photo, or art for your line, send it over so you can show some love for your route!

More paper Fast Pass extinction dates

another month, another muni pass

A couple weeks ago, we told you about how Muni is phasing out the beloved colorful paper Fast Pass. At the time, we only had solid information about the adult “A” passes (the sure-to-be-a-collectors-item last ones printed will be October 2010).

But Akit has awesomely dug more information, and he reports the following:

  • Youth and Senior paper passes will end February 2011. The last paper passes will be issued for January 2011.
  • Adult “M” Muni Only paper passes will end April 2011. The last paper pass will be issued for March 2011.

So there you have it, folks. The die-hard among you can get the $60 Muni-only pass in lieu of the then-extinct $70 Muni-and-BART-within-SF pass. You know, if you want …

Muni Diaries’ Brand New Look

We’ve teased you about it for a while, but Muni Diaries has finally gotten a make-over! Don’t worry, it’s still the same site, just lookin’ better and workin’ smoother. If you read Muni Diaries from your RSS reader, today’s just like any other day so feel free to mosey over to today’s post. But if you read Muni Diaries from the web, here’s a little about the site’s new look.

First, our graphic designer and event emcee Suzanne LaGasa created our fresh new logo and set the look-and-feel of the new Muni Diaries — don’t you just love the little colorful people waiting for the bus?

Then, our master web developer Yen Pai brought you several site enhancements. You’ll see that we’ve added a rolling feature box at the top of the page that has the most buzzy stories of the day so that you won’t have to scroll down to see them. Click on the left and right arrows to see all the feature stories.

The “Latest on Muni Diaries” section on the homepage has all the posts, just like you saw on the old Muni Diaries. But if you want to read only stories, click on Diaries. To read posts about Muni news, click News.

Really, other than that, the site is very much the same as it always was. We still ask for you to send us your Muni stories. We still scour the news for stories important to Muni riders.

We know that this new look might take a little getting used to, but we hope you love it as much as we do. As with all things that we do on Muni Diaries, let us know if you have questions or feedback. We know you speak your mind.

And now, back to chronicling life on the bus.
