Streetsblog SF reports that Muni is considering a pilot program on the J-Church to test the theory that allowing boarding on all doors of a Metro train will speed up service. That, along with stop consolidation, are among the top reasons for delays systemwide. According to Streetsblog SF, a portion of the J-Church line is being considered for possible elimination of some stops.

Slide for Commuters

Photo: newslite.tv

Dutch train passengers at the Overvecht Station can slide down into the train station if they’re late or just bored. Amy of Tiny Rides tipped us off to this fun bit of news from Holland, where this ‘transfer accelerator’ (slide) had been installed as “an alternative to stairs.”

Metro.co.uk has a video of a passenger sliding down to the train station.

I was expected the landing to be a little softer, but hey, it does look fun. Just imagine the liability issues if Muni installed a slide down to Powell station. I am guessing that we’ll have to go to Holland to slide into our commute.

Two Shot While Riding Muni Bus

Two Muni passengers were shot early Sunday morning in the city’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood, police said, according to a report from Bay City News via SF Appeal.

More from Bay City News/SFAppeal:

The shooting occurred aboard a Muni bus at Arleta and San Bruno avenues at around 1:15 a.m. The suspect, described as a black male, was not aboard the bus, according to police.

One victim was shot in the hand and the other suffered a gunshot wound to the neck.

Looks like the injuries are thus far not life-threatening.  We’ll keep you updated.

Update: Semi vs. Muni — Were You There?

Update (2:17 p.m.): More from our eyewitness and picture-taker: these vehicles were definitely touching and not moving at the time this photo was snapped, he says. Geographic location — and a commenter below — indicates that something’s directionally amiss. Still wondering what happened if anyone knows.

Rider @mikepreuss witnessed an accident between the 30-Stockton and a semi a little after midnight Friday morning. This looks to be around Chestnut and Pierce. Were you on this bus or near the scene? Let us know what you saw. Hope everyone was okay.

BREAKING NEWS: Kenneth Harding possibly died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds (update)

Update (4:46 p.m.): From SFGate: “Based on the findings of the medical examiner, at this time we believe he was fatally wounded by a .380-caliber bullet,” [SFPD Commander Mike] Biel told reporters this afternoon. “We believe the fatal wound to Mr. Harding’s body was self-inflicted.”

Original post: The victim of last Saturday’s Bayview killing, Kenneth Harding, possibly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound according to the San Francisco Medical Examiner. SF Appeal (via BCN) has the story.

It was originally reported that SFPD fired on Harding after he fired at them. The altercation took place following a fare inspection that Harding fled from.

We’ll update here as we learn more.
