Mission Buses Rerouted for Upcoming Street Renovation

The 14, 14L, and 49 buses will be moved from Mission Street to South Van Ness for six months beginning early next month. MissionLocal reports that the reroute will span 14th to 26th streets to make way for roadwork in that area on Mission Street. Above, you’ll find a handy map of the affected area, via Mission Local.

So far, reaction ranges from “Oh, is this what that flier was about?” to “Really? We have to walk to Van Ness, practically the East Bay, to get on and off a bus?”

Thanks, MissionMission!

Muni to shut down N-Judah LRV weekend service for six weeks

Heads up: Starting next Friday, Muni will suspend weekend light-rail service on the N-Judah line between Ocean Beach and Church and Duboce. Sorry, people, they said they have to, as they work on two rail-improvement projects. Bus shuttles will take the place of streetcars from 8 p.m. Fridays to 5 a.m. Mondays along this stretch of the N-Judah’s route.

For more information on the service interruption, see SFMTA’s website.

Free Muni for Kids?

Should San Francisco kids ride Muni free of charge? The question, already floating around town on- and offline, might finally make its way to the deciders: the SFMTA board of directors may discuss it at next month’s meeting.

Supervisor David Campos is one of the proposal’s biggest supporters. Though details are still being hammered out, Campos envisions no restrictions for time of day: that is, youth riders could ride free anytime. Supervisor Sean Elsbernd, on the other hand, says the idea will cost Muni way too much, especially in light of current and projected multimillion-dollar operating deficits.

Muni Time Capsule: Tug-Metro Pulls Its Predecessor to Pasture

Over at Muni Time Capsule this morning, we bring video and photos of a scene earlier in the week. Using a two-car Breda LRV, Muni tugged one of its few remaining old Boeing streetcars from Mint Yard (behind Safeway on Market) to Metro Yard (near Balboa Park).
