This week’s top Muni moments feature a Christmas tie. It’s not too soon, is it?

  1. Do you think the 38 drivers feel inferior to the 38L drivers when they get passed by them on O’farrell?
  2. The look on people’s faces when they realize they got on an express bus by mistake.
  3. There is a man on the 49 wearing a necktie with a bold Christmas tree motif. ‘Tis the season!
  4. A man on Muni playing music from his phone just dropped it and it fell apart. Music man 0 – everyone else 1.
  5. I was pretty convinced the toddler behind me shat on the N-Judah. Then I saw the woman eating tuna.

This week’s top five Muni moments were brought to you by @krystaelaine, @harpersfinest, @kitzerkoo, @lamelsauceda, and @annedcamp. Got your own Muni moment? Tweet it to us at @munidiaries!

People collect things. It’s one of the things people do. It’s fun, and sometimes borders on sickness.

Grace collects things she overhears in San Francisco. She alerted us to the special room in her house of overheards: Overheard on Muni. Naturally, we bought in.

A sampling:

OH in SF (on the 14L):
Woman: Hey that’s knitting she’s doing! My Dr. says I should learn that cuz it’ll relax my mind, also I need to find an AA meeting.

This week on Muni Diaries was just like any other week, in that it was completely different than the week before. Among other scents and events captured on @munidiaries

  1. Saw my light rail driver pause to hand empty bottles out the window to hunched woman collecting recyclables.
  2. Classical music serenading commuters on the bus this morning – source tbd… #munidiaries #soclassy
  3. the 31 smells like maple syrup… At least it’s a pleasant smell today
  4. “This is the bus I got possessed on.” -talkative religious woman on the 5. #muni
  5. The N-Judah is coming in 6, 6, 6. Uh oh. pic.twitter.com/SJosJ4IILH

There’s an important score to settle here, folks, and we need your help.

Last week on the Muni Diaries Facebook page, we asked you:

Which line would win in a fight? (click links for diaries about that line)

19-Polk
14-Mission
49-Van Ness

No official tally has been taken yet, although we saw some creative and entertaining responses. Karen says, “The things I’ve seen in 14 cannot be unseen.” It’s fair to say that the 14-Mission leads the pack, with the 19-Polk perhaps a bus-length behind.

We cannot complete this survey without putting it to a vote here. So, tell us who you’re putting your money on. And if your answer is “other,” let us know which route you’d choose.

Go!

Cats selflessly lend their images to Muni rider’s shirt

Does this count as cats on Muni? As the ranking editor of cats-on-Muni this week, I say yes. Go ahead and make this your desktop wallpaper, I’ll wait.

Anyway, rider Kate spotted this in the wild, noting this “Muni rider takes fashion to the next level.”

I think my favorite one is that little ginger fella peeking over the gray one in repose.

Are there cats on Muni, you ask? You bet your ass there are cats on Muni. Peruse our Cute category for more heartwarming, less bodily fluid-y kinds of happenings on SF transit.
