Bent out of Shape at Powell Street Station

Behold the coolest PR stunts you’ll ever see for a movie.

In connection with the Clean Socks Documentary Project, a film about the Mongolian art form of contortion, these folks sampled their bendiest moves at Powell Street Station recently.

You, too, will be amazed by these contortionists “getting [their] socks very dirty for a clean socks project.” Contribute to the Clean Socks Project Kickstarter if you love what you see.

Man Successfully Reaches New Low at Millbrae BART

Transit etiquette and decent human behavior, yet again, flew out the window at Millbrae BART, dropping the chivalry index to a record low.

No, seriously. This was my morning: BART was running at least 15 minutes late to Millbrae, so people on my BART train making the Millbrae Caltrain connection were getting visibly antsy. It looked like we would miss the bullet train, after which the local Caltrain only comes every hour. As the Millbrae BART train pulled in, we could see that a Caltrain was already waiting at the opposite platform, but we would have to go upstairs to cross the platform and then down another set of stairs to catch it.

The BART train stops and everybody makes a mad scramble to the fare gates. As I walked up to the faregate and reached out to scan my Clipper card, a young man (Silicon Valley type, corporate backpack), leaped over two other people to jump in front of me to scan his Clipper card.

His Clipper card didn’t scan so the fare gate was still closed, so he hoisted himself up to jump the gate, kicking up his feet to nick me right in the shin, breaking skin (I was wearing a skirt and heels on account of the great weather today). No apologies.

None of us made the train.

How about this for an etiquette rule: don’t take fellow riders out at the knees (or the shins). Now does anyone have a Band-Aid for me?

Careful where you pee

You gotta go, you gotta go, sure. But when taking BART, you might want to reconsider peeing while down near the tracks. From Illinois:

An Indiana man died when he tried urinating on subway tracks Sunday night.

Zachary McKee, 27, died after falling on the electrically charged third rail at the South Boulevard Purple Line ‘L’ stop in Evanston, Ill., which he touched by climbing onto the tracks to relieve himself.

Ouch. Read the rest of the story at The Daily News.

Oscar Grant BART Shooting To Be Made Into Movie

Coming to a movie theater near you: the Oscar Grant fatal BART shooting. The movie is called “Fruitvale” and is being produced by Forrest Whitaker. Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) and former Friday Night Lights actor Michael B. Jordan are in talks to star in the movie. The movie is still in negotiation.

SFist has more details about the story.

What do you think — do you want to watch a movie about Oscar Grant or are the news reports enough to do it justice? I’m personally curious about how the events will be portrayed on the big screen.

Occupy Protester Jumps in Front of BART and Survives (video)

Yesterday afternoon an “Occupy” protester jumped in front of the tracks at the 24th Street station as the Daly City train was approaching. After several minutes, the BART police arrived, the power to the third rail was turned off, and this man luckily survived what could have been a grisly scene. The Uptown Alamanac has the video of how it all went down.

More from Mission Local:

A man named Michael jumped onto the 24th Street BART tracks just as a Daly City-bound train was approaching. Wearing a shirt that said Viva la Revolucion and yelling “You have the power,” he said he was occupying the tracks because he was sick of sleeping on the streets for six years.

Witnesses on the platform waved their arms frantically at the driver, and the train came to a screeching halt within a foot of hitting the man.

Michael was on the tracks for no more than two minutes when police arrived on the scene.

A commenter on MissionMission said that Michael turned around to the oncoming train and said, “You almost hit me.”

Thank you for making eye contact

This is a real love note given to Zoë (A Girl I Knew) as she was getting off of BART the other day.

“Thank you for making eye contact. I find it to be a simple and extremely important part of building and being a community.

You have an extremely warm and sunny presence, which I really appreciate.”

This letter writer also invited Zoë for tea (“or go play on the swings”), which I also found pretty endearing. Of all the notes we’ve found on public transit lately (check out a few of them), this one is on the top of the sweet-o-meter.

Missed a connection on Muni? You can always submit your letter (or one that you found).
