Tara Ramroop has laughed, cried, and commiserated with this amazing community from the start. She's been writing for as long as she can remember and riding Muni for more than a decade.

Thanks, Muni Community

June-And-E-Muni

For everyone who thinks Muni-riding city folks are kid-hating meanies, Sheila reminds us otherwise:

This isn’t really so much a story but just a shout out to all the kind people I’ve encountered on Muni. I ride Muni quite regularly with these two girls: my daughter and her best friend. It’s not easy going across town with two toddlers, but I have to say the entire community has been great to us. From the City College student who held the door for us so we wouldn’t miss our train, to the drivers and station agents who are always ready with a smile and lots of patience, to the guy who offered us a seat even though he had heavy bags of groceries. I couldn’t do it without these wonderfully kind people that I encounter daily. Yesterday, while entertaining the girls with a round of ABCs, three elderly ladies joined us while they rode back from and early morning visit to Chinatown. So, thanks, everyone!

And thank you for sharing, Sheila. Three elderly ladies helping the girls with their ABCs always qualifies as a story.

We all needed a reminder this week of good things in the world, right? Do something nice for your fellow Muni riders today and let Muni Diaries know all about it.

Even the Giants won’t celebrate without Muni

Angels get their wings when Muni meets San Francisco Giants, or something like that that’s probably true.

Our San Francisco Giants, 2012 World Series champs, got champion-worthy bling from Tiffany’s last weekend. Since we can’t get cable cars on the field, we settled for this “cable car” party bus to deliver the goods. But, to boost authenticity and pay homage to the home city, real-life cable-car gripmen and conductors walked the rings to the field.

Cable car operators are Muni’s cream of the crop and the city’s unofficial ambassadors—but don’t forget that many of them drove our everyday lines once upon a time.

@sfgiants follows us, and you should, too! See you and your thumb thoughts @munidiaries.

He wore a raspberry beret

One! Two! One, two, three, HUH!

jcsnotes sent this our way, noting, simply, “He wore a raspberry beret.”

OK, you guys, let’s see how many more “Raspberry Beret” references I can get into this post:

  • Do you think he found it in a second-hand store?
  • He probably walked in through the out back door.
  • Overcast days always turn us on, actually. It’s San Francisco, for crying out loud.

I think I looooove this.

Here are the lyrics to this ’80s Prince classic so you don’t think I’m insane.

Muni rider snubs snub nose at this rain

pug

You said it, Mr./Ms. Pug. Hmph on this rain, plus, wouldn’t you know it, the bus was late again and everyone keeps telling me I’m cute. Obviously, so let’s move on.

This made Twitter photog @dearamerican‘s day, though. It would definitely make ours.

So, it is not going to rain for evening commute, right? Because I left my adorable poncho and disaffected Muni face at home. In any case, thanks @dearamerican for sharing. On the go, tweet any and all Muni musings to @munidiaries.

What Google bus? Android commutes on Muni

android

Remember when people were all BOO GOOGLE BUS, go, Muni of the proletariat! Well, Google bus, shmoogle bus, says…Android?

Via @kacie69mustang:

The google android robot is riding the #muni 49. I wonder if that is the only green he owns.

Yep, Android. The beloved symbol of Google smartphonery, my Gmail theme, and my hallway (srsly, an Android Squishable is in my hallway) rides Muni like the rest of us. He/she/it even one-ups half of all Muni riders by standing in the elderly/disabled section, though I accept that it is probably impossible to sit in that outfit.

Google, you better hope it’s not checking an iPhone right now.

No, really, send Android-on-Muni sightings to @munidiaries on Twitter.
