Muni Diaries’ Brand New Look

We’ve teased you about it for a while, but Muni Diaries has finally gotten a make-over! Don’t worry, it’s still the same site, just lookin’ better and workin’ smoother. If you read Muni Diaries from your RSS reader, today’s just like any other day so feel free to mosey over to today’s post. But if you read Muni Diaries from the web, here’s a little about the site’s new look.

First, our graphic designer and event emcee Suzanne LaGasa created our fresh new logo and set the look-and-feel of the new Muni Diaries — don’t you just love the little colorful people waiting for the bus?

Then, our master web developer Yen Pai brought you several site enhancements. You’ll see that we’ve added a rolling feature box at the top of the page that has the most buzzy stories of the day so that you won’t have to scroll down to see them. Click on the left and right arrows to see all the feature stories.

The “Latest on Muni Diaries” section on the homepage has all the posts, just like you saw on the old Muni Diaries. But if you want to read only stories, click on Diaries. To read posts about Muni news, click News.

Really, other than that, the site is very much the same as it always was. We still ask for you to send us your Muni stories. We still scour the news for stories important to Muni riders.

We know that this new look might take a little getting used to, but we hope you love it as much as we do. As with all things that we do on Muni Diaries, let us know if you have questions or feedback. We know you speak your mind.

And now, back to chronicling life on the bus.

What are you listening to on Muni today?

Some of you will read this before or during your afternoon/evening commute. We’re curious: If you’ve got the earbuds in, for whatever reason, what are you listening to?

We’d like to put together another Muni Playlist, like the one we did last November:

On the 33, Tenaya is listening to The Mystic Krew of Clear Light, a heavy metal band out of New Orleans. In front of him, Jesus is listening to Hoobastank’s “The Reason.” Jesus’s friend, Julio, was listening to a psycho punk band called skz1 (I think).

So tell us: What are you listening to on Muni?

Muni inadvertently injures kitteh?

We’re not totally “going there” with that headline. But we also couldn’t resist.

From Animals With Casts (formerly the more appropriately named Fuck Yeah! Animals With Casts):

Pogo likes the windowsill. It just happens that his window is on a trolley line (in San Francisco) and one spooked him enough to fall 2 stories. Luckily, he only broke a toe, but is none too pleased about the splint/cast the vet gave him. Everybody, send Pogo some sympathy love.

What’s that they say about cats always landing on their feet? I guess Pogo mistook his toes for his feet. Poor guy?

’10 places not to see before you die’ — you’ve seen at least one

You’ve been engaged in the NYC Subway vs. Muni gross-a-thon since yesterday, talkin’ trash about most disgusting thing you’ve seen on transit in New York or San Francisco. The trash-talking doesn’t stop here, though. We came across this Salon article on “10 places not to see before you die.” Guess what, you’ve been to at least one of them! Check out #3.

Let’s start with the carpet. Why would Bay Area Rapid Transit, one of the country’s busiest commuter rail systems, decide it was a good idea to upholster the floor?

The result is Eau de BART, the stomach-turning scent that hits you in the face every time you board a train to San Francisco.

Oh man. Our transit system is getting dissed…nationally! Okay, I agree that the cloth seats are a bad idea. What’s more barftastic: BART, Muni, or the NYC subway?

(Thanks for the tip, reader Dave)

Muni Missed Connection: Jackie the Muni Operator

Yep, you read that right. “Mike” left a Craigslist missed connection for a Muni operator.

So nice to bump into you again last night. I don’t know whether it’s your aura, your spirit, or just pheromones, but every time I get to see your smile, it makes my night.

And with this missed connection, my definition of awesome is rewritten yet again.

Thx: @verbalcupcake
