One-woman band/mime honors Prince with Muni love story

Prince and love go together, and here’s a Muni Diaries Live memory honoring The Purple One. Back in 2012, Mahsa and Elyse met on Muni due to a little incident involving a lost wallet (you should definitely check out their story here). Months later, Mahsa, the one-woman band/mime and Elyse delighted the audience at Muni Diaries Live by retelling their story in kill-me cute Dr. Seuss-like rhyme. Then Mahsa covered Prince’s “Kiss” while Elyse broke out into twirl on stage.

Thank you, Prince, for giving new meaning to doves, the raspberry beret, and everything lovely.

Tonight: SF Transit Riders Union’s Kickoff Party

The San Francisco Transit Riders Union is launching its new “Make Transit Awesome” campaign tonight with a kickoff party, and your humble Muni Diaries editor will be part of a panel to talk about the behind-the-scenes gems of documenting your daily commute.

From the San Francisco Transit Riders Union:

We’ve been active in the San Francisco transit community since 2010, slowly growing and now punching above our weight. Everything we’ve accomplished so far has been entirely lead by volunteers with one part-time contractor. We want to step up our game and bring on full-time, permanent staff who can truly devote their time and organizing skills to increasing our reach throughout the city and across all possible transit projects.

We envision a Muni where no matter where you are going, you can get there in 30 minutes. We want to help make this happen by launching a “30 by ’30” campaign, outlining a rider-centric vision of the city’s transit network over the next 15 years.

The Indiegogo campaign has already surpassed its initial goal, and you can hear more about it at the event this evening.

This Saturday: Muni Burlesque, Muni Bingo, and Only-in-SF stories!

if you want it

Where can you find a club full of people who love San Francisco as much as you do, aren’t too snooty to ride the bus, and will cheer at the mention of “Back Door!”? You’ll find good company at Muni Diaries Live this Saturday, where you can raise a glass with your fellow commuters and toast to the hilarity of riding Muni (and BART, too!).

We’ve got a stellar lineup of performers with all the funny, sweet, and sometimes totally WTF stories that happen on Muni and BART. And for this show, we have the lovely Alexa Von Kickinface, co-host of San Francisco’s infamous and beloved monthly burlesque show—Hubba Hubba Revue! Muni plus burlesque? You’ll have to see it for yourself.

Oh, and dust off your bingo daubers! For the first time, we’re playing Muni Bingo, and you can win free drinks at the Elbo Room bar! My hands are currently covered with glue from renaming all 75 bingo balls to Muni lines, so make it all worthwhile and come play Muni bingo with us! There are only a handful of tickets left in advanced sales, so get your tickets soon!

Props to Mom and Dad for dressing up this kid as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and creating the cutest Muni moment this week. Wouldn’t it be great if we could dress in costumes every day? Oh wait, we live in San Francisco, so yes, this is definitely an achievable life goal.

Thanks to @cceres for submitting this Muni moment. Tag #munidiaries on Instagram to submit your own.
