Getting Hitched at the Muni Yard

Eat your heart out, Legion of Honor. There’s a hot new wedding photo spot in town: the Muni yard! We found Heather and Ed’s wedding photos on Flickr (taken by photographer Jessica Palopoli). Here’s what Heather had to say about getting hitched with Muni in the background:

We were supposed to have our wedding out at Fort Miley – near Land’s End – with the Golden Gate Bridge and all that in the background. Then the weather surprised us by raining all day and we had to move our ceremony – and photoshoot – to our reception venue, at the Verdi Club (on Mariposa and Potrero).

In the months leading up to the wedding I had done some thinking about where we would do the photoshoot if the wedding rained out, so I’d mused that we could use the Muni yard, which is a half-block away from the Verdi Club – as a backdrop. It was graphically interesting and very San Francisco! We were lucky enough to have a short break in the deluge, long enough to take a few photos.

The Muni pictures are awesome and definitely showcase our city, even if it’s not in the way I’d originally planned. Oh – and we wanted to actually go in the yard and take photos by the buses, but the security guy at the gate of the yard wouldn’t let us.

I guess we can rest assured that the Muni yard is pretty secure. Thanks, Heather and Ed!

Best of 2010: The Other Chicken Rides the Bus

This week we bring you our favorite diaries of 2010 from the backroom of Muni Diaries headquarters. One of my favorite submissions of the year is Chicken’s Day Out from rider Kevin. After the little controversy about the Chinatown chicken story, I was only glad to see that we can now think of chickens on the bus in a different light.

Kevin came across a couple whose obvious love for their pet chicken inspired him to submit the story. Best of all, Kevin snapped a picture of the chicken’s owner falling asleep cradling his feathery friend.

What’s your most memorable Muni ride this year?

At Least It’s Not Snow

Think our recent spat of rain is bad? At least we’re not snowed in inside a subway tunnel like these poor New Yorkers. They reportedly waited for hours in the tunnel with out heat or food. Rueters reports via SFGate:

“Passengers have been stuck for several hours on two New York City subway trains stalled in snow drifts near Kennedy Airport.

NYC Transit spokesman Charles Seaton says that snow drifts and ice on the third rail have stalled trains at two stops in Queens, north and south of Kennedy Airport.”

Yipes.

Make Your Own Velvet Rope on the Bus

Think it’s hard to get your own seat on the bus? Our brethren in Washington D.C.’s Unsuck DC Metro blog saw someone who, well, took it to the next level. From Unsuck DC Metro:

This past Saturday morning, I boarded the Blue Line train to Largo at Pentagon City and saw this sleeping passenger across the aisle from me.

He had taken his belt off and tied it to the hand rails on his seat and the seat in front of him.

Saw more antics on the bus? I dare say that San Francisco, with Muni presiding, is the capital of bus antics, what do you think?
