Animated! Catching Muni at Powell

Oh look, it’s moving! And I’m dizzy! Rider Doug sent us this animated gif with this note:

While I waited in the Powell station yesterday for an N train that never seems to come, I did manage to capture a series of photos showing other people catching the train. I turned the photos into a .gif.

Awesome new activity while you wait for the bus. Thanks, Doug!

Vote for Us in the SF Weekly Web Awards

It’s time to nominate your favorite websites and Twitter feeds in SF Weekly’s annual Web Awards. SF Weekly wants you to tell them who is the “Best Public Transit Blog.” Naturally, we thought you might have an idea about that. (I would put a winky face here but I think that violates some kind of code of conduct.)

The awards also ask you to vote for other online favorites, including the best food blogger, best neighborhood blog, and best events website. So be sure to vote for sites that are your constant daily companions. For ideas, check out the awesome blogs in our sidebar to the right over there.

Oh, the last category of the SF Weekly Awards is a free-for-all write-in. If the @munidiaries Twitter feed keeps you entertained throughout the day, we wouldn’t mind if you wrote us in as best local Twitter feed.

SF Weekly has more details about the judges who will pick the winner from your top three choices.

Thank you for all your support and stories, and now, for all your votes!

Vote in the San Francisco Weekly Web Awards: 4. Best Public Transit Blog and 35. Wild Card: “@munidiaries for best local Twitter feed.”

Transpo Shopping Spree

The Golden Gate Bridge is well and fine as an emblem of San Francisco souvenir. But if you really want to show some local pride, the Muni worm is where it’s at. We went Etsy-diving and found some awesome stuff for your Monday morning shopping needs.

1. Wanna write down your Muni stories the old fashioned way? Check out the custom Muni notebook above made by Muni Diaries reader Christa.

2. More Muni shirts! Check out Sex Pigeon’s Muni shirts. (HT: SFist)

3. Watercolor painting of Polk Gulch transit. This beauty is a bit more expensive, but click on the listing to see the awesome hand-painted details.

4. Turn the lights on! Light switch panel covered with Muni transfers. Pretty neat idea, and I thought I had seen it all.

5. The same artist who made the light switch plate also made an amazing collage of the Golden Gate bridge out of Muni transfers.

6. Wood Routing by Dave Marcoullier Designs in solid cherry. Very cool.

7. And of course, don’t forget our Muni Diaries Long Live the Fast Pass shirt, modeled here by Tara. These shirts and baby onesies are also available at Secession Art and Design on Mission and 30th Street. Our Fast Pass Clipper Card holders will be back on Etsy in a few weeks, but if you want to own one now, you can buy them at Bay Crossings at the Ferry Building and at the Embarcadero station!

Wanna buy more stuff? Check out our other merchandise roundup post and Faern’s Twitter-sourced Muni transfer art.
