Photo Diary: My Parents on Muni

My Parents

Reader Alfredo M. shared this old photo of his parents on Muni:

The people in the photo are my parents, Alfredo and Maria. The photo was taken in the Mission district in 1987. I asked my parents about it some months ago and was actually surprised to hear that the photo was taken the day they found out they were going to have a baby. The baby was me, their first born. By the look on my dad’s face, I’d say they were really happy.

Man Shot in Foot in Mission Muni Shelter

A man was shot in the foot at a Muni shelter on Mission and 16th Street Monday night around 7 p.m., reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after and apprehended the suspect.

More from the Chronicle:

A patrolling officer heard gunfire near the corner of 16th and Mission streets around 7 p.m. Monday and saw the fleeing gunman, police said.

The officer chased the man but lost sight of him, but another officer nearby spotted him and detained him. A handgun was found under a parked car. Police have not released the man’s name.

The victim is expected to survive.

Mission and 16th, right at bustling dinner/commute time? Scary stuff. We’ll keep you posted if there is more information.

Project Art a Day Featuring Muni

MUNI

For most of us, it’s a challenge to produce even one piece of art that you wouldn’t be embarrassed to hang on your wall. But reader “Tofu St. John” has embarked on a brave project this year: he produced a 4″ by 4″ mixed media piece every day as a reflection of the day.

Last week he devoted the Nov. 21 piece to Muni, seen above. You can learn more about his project at 2011 Project.com or see his daily progress on the 2011Project blog. Or, send him a postcard and help him make the first piece of art for 2012.
